Pertains to orthopaedic surgery that is performed using a minimally invasive approach without cutting through any tendons or muscle. This allows the joint replacement to be done as an outpatient, so patients return home the same day as surgery!
The many types of miminally invasive orthopaedic procedures that Dr. Kayal performs include:
Shoulder:
Knee:
Hip:
Spine:
- Cervical and lumbar disc surgery
- Surgery for sciatica
- Cervical fusions (ACDF)
- Posterior surgical decompressions
Ankle:
- Ankle arthroscopy for OCD
- Loose bodies
- Impingement
- Synovitis
Many of these procedures are performed arthroscopically through tiny incisions, without having to make traditional open incisions.
For patients, minimally invasive surgery means less trauma to
the body, reduced blood loss, smaller surgical scars and decreased
need of pain medication. Patients who undergo minimally invasive
surgery also experience reduced postoperative pain and scarring, shorter hospital
stays, faster rehabilitation, better preservation of normal anatomy and an earlier return to work and normal daily activities.
